Our Story
We built the directory we wished existed.
Mahjong is having a moment — and it has been for a while. Across the country, players are discovering the game for the first time, returning to it after years away, and falling deeper in love with every season’s new card. But as the community has grown, so has the noise. Finding a good retailer means hours of searching. Locating a social group in your area is a matter of luck. Knowing which instructor to trust, which venue to visit, which event to register for — all of it scattered across dozens of websites, Facebook groups, and word-of-mouth recommendations that don’t always reach you.
The Mahjong Guild was built to change that. We created a single, curated home for everything the American mahjong community needs — a place where retailers are verified, listings are thoughtfully written, and the experience of finding your next game is as enjoyable as playing it.
Whether you’re just discovering the tiles or you’ve been playing for decades, there’s a seat at our table for you.
What We Believe
Mahjong is more than a game.
It is a tradition, a ritual, a reason to gather. It is the sound of tiles on a table and the feeling of a hand coming together in the final wall. It is the particular joy of finding a set that feels exactly right, the satisfaction of introducing a new player to the Charleston for the first time, and the quiet pleasure of a Wednesday afternoon game with people who understand why this matters.
We believe the mahjong community deserves a resource that reflects the quality of the game itself — curated rather than comprehensive for its own sake, warm rather than transactional, and genuinely useful to players at every stage of their journey.
The Guild is built on that belief, and everything we do — every listing we write, every directory we build, every tip we share — is in service of the players who make this community worth belonging to.
